The total revenue of the 100 largest companies in South-Eastern Europe (SEE) fell by 14% in 2009 to €78bn. The result is not surprising, bearing in mind the adverse impact of the global crisis on the region. Unchanged from last year’s edition, Romanian companies prevail in the 2010 edition of SEE Top 100 ranking with 41 entries. The second place in terms of the number of companies is held by Bulgaria with 16 companies, followed by Serbia and Slovenia with 14 companies each.
Oil and gas companies display the highest combined total revenue of €25.6bn for 2009 (28% drop from 2008). Romania’s OMV Petrom remains the largest regional company in the oil and gas industry (revenue €3.388bn, down from €4.851bn in 2008). Electricity companies generated the second highest combined total revenue of €13.5bn in the 2009 ranking, almost unchanged from 2008.
