Schengen area in Romania and Bulgaria

Romania and Bulgaria could be admitted in the border-free Schengen area by the end of the Hungarian EU Presidency in mid-2011. Stopping the flow of illegal immigrants is seen as key for allowing the two countries to join. France and Germany said that it was “premature” to let Bulgaria and Romania enter the passport-free travel area, on the other hand Luxemburg backs the two countries to become Schengen members in the next months. It only takes one member country of the Schengen block to vote against them and scupper their plans.
